Dealing with Rapid Company Growth
Posted Friday July 01st, 2016 by Gia Manalio-Bonaventura in Analysis + Strategy.Every company strives to grow. However, once that growth begins, most are not prepared to deal with the growing pains. As we continue to grow here at GEM, and as we help other companies do the same, we have compiled 4 tips that will help you during the process:
- Expect setbacks. In a perfect world, changes would occur smoothly all of the time; however, reality reminds us often enough that change can be bumpy. Aggressive growth is not for the faint of heart, but if you understand that there will be ups and downs, you can remain focused on creating solutions and even planning ahead to avoid pitfalls.
- Let go of archaic systems. Sometimes, it's difficult to accept the need to change certain things that have always worked in the past. But, growing a company means having to be adaptive and willing to accept change. During periods of aggressive growth, you should be continuously evaluating whether or not new procedures are working, and if not, finding new systems that will serve the needs of your evolving company.
- Analyze feelings. As you grow, you’ll want to make sure you’re not leaving any of your valuable people behind. Take time to collect and analyze the sentiments and experiences of every constituency that affects your brand, from customers through to management. Keeping your people engaged in the growth process is elemental to keeping them rowing in the same direction.
- Hire carefully. As your company grows, so will your need for great people. Your people — and their talents — are going to be essential to your growth. Make sure you hire people that will benefit not only your product or service, but also the culture of your company. Check out Topgrading for what most managers agree is one of the best hiring systems available today.
Aggressive growth can be exciting, but it can also derail an organization if the leadership isn’t sure how to plan and implement an effective growth strategy. If you’re ready to experience growth at your organization, it may be time to join forces with a strategic growth partner like GEM.
At GEM, we have used our experience to develop our very own method for growing clients, called the Growth Experience ModelSM. To see how the model works to create exponential growth, visit our CT Sinus Center case study.
